ABOUT CÁCERES
Cáceres is located in the interior of Spain, in the north of the region of Extremadura. Its capital is the city of Cáceres, whose historic town has been declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. The Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe, also in the province of Cáceres shares the same distinction. With a population of more than 90,000 inhabitants, it has a land area of 1,750.33 km², and is the second largest in geographical extension in Spain.
The old town (Ciudad Monumental) still has its ancient walls; this part of town is also well known for its multitude of storks' nests. The walls contain a medieval town setting with no outward signs of modernity, which is why many films have been shot there.
The Universidad de Extremadura and two astronomicalobservatories are situated in Cáceres. The city is also a seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Coria-Cáceres.
Cáceres was declared a World Heritage City byUNESCO in 1986 because of the city's blend of Roman,Moorish, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance architecture. Thirty towers from the Islamic period still stand in Cáceres, of which the Torre del Bujaco is the most famous.
One big attraction of Cáceres is the friendliness of the people who live there, always ready to help a lost tourist in need!

TASTE
Cáceres was awarded the title of Gastronomy Capital of Spain for 2015. With its architectural wonders, it is the ideal setting for a gastronomy route through the culinary specialties of the Extremadura region. Extremaduran cuisine is simple, tasty and very varied, because it knows how to use the top quality resources it has at its disposal and never tries to hide anything. This has resulted in authentic, natural and uncomplicated dishes. Christians, Muslims and Jews lived together in this region and each left its mark on Extremaduran cooking.
There are well-known restaurants in Cáceres city.
